During my efforts to retrace my family\u2019s Bolivian roots, I met the residents of Llojeta, a small village that used to form part of one of our family\u2019s estates. Llojeta\u2019s town council and I agreed to work together to rebuild the villages drinking water system, which is in very bad shape.\u00a0 Many houses in the village do not get any water.\u00a0 Those that do only get it for a few hours a day, and the water quality is not monitored or tested.<\/p>\n

For the rebuild, the village will provide all the labor on a volunteer basis, and project management and skilled workers by EMOVIT, the construction company.<\/p>\n

My family contributed $5000 for the necessary planning and engineering studies.The balance of the $67,000 total funding for the project has been provided by the Rotary International Foundation and individual Rotary clubs in California. Construction started in the fall of 2019, but has been delayed since then by issues relating to the Bolivian elections and the pandemic.\u00a0 I will post updates on the project as available.<\/p>\n
